Somebody has been making a jackass of themselves, slamming my new in-house server line which is dedicated to the Black Hole forum with "denial of service" attacks of various sorts.
For a while I managed to deflect the primary mode of attack by firewalling all non-web ports, but now the primary attacks seem to be focused on port 80 so the firewall is less helpful.
Currently I have learned more about the problem, and the bulk of the attacks are coming from just a few addresses. From what I understand, they are trying to attack my vBulletin software and use it to spread a virus or other type of "cross-site scripting attacks" which are often tools for organized crime.
I am currently in the process of blocking all traffic from these IP ranges and hopefully soon the problem should be no more. But especially if anything weird or worse happens, I figured everyone should know what the heck is going on......
