Well, this is news to me.. It'll be interesting to see if the Gentleman from North Carolina substantiates his claim...

GOP lawmaker: Saddam linked to 9/11
NEW YORK
A Republican congressman from North Carolina told CNN on Wednesday that the "evidence is clear" that Iraq was involved in the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
"Saddam Hussein and people like him were very much involved in 9/11," Rep. Robin Hayes said.
Told no investigation had ever found evidence to link Saddam and 9/11, Hayes responded, "I'm sorry, but you must have looked in the wrong places."
Hayes, the vice chairman of the House subcommittee on terrorism, said legislators have access to evidence others do not.
Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said that Saddam was a dangerous man, but when asked about Hayes' statement, would not link the deposed Iraqi ruler to the terrorist attacks on New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
"I haven't seen compelling evidence of that," McCain, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told CNN.
On Tuesday night, President Bush mentioned the September 11 attacks five times during his address on the war in Iraq, prompting criticism from congressional Democrats.
The 9/11 commission, appointed by Bush, presented its final report a year ago, saying that Osama bin Laden had been "willing to explore possibilities for cooperation with Iraq" at one time in the 1990s but that the al Qaeda leader "had in fact been sponsoring anti-Saddam Islamists in Iraqi Kurdistan, and sought to attract them into his Islamic army."
The 520-page report said investigators found no evidence that any "contacts ever developed into a collaborative operational relationship."
"Nor have we seen evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States," it said.
President Bush said in September 2003 that "We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11 [attacks]."
Nevertheless, Hayes insisted that the connection between al Qaeda and Saddam and "folks who work for him" has been seen "time and time again."
"Nobody disputes 9/11," Hayes said. "They would do it again if not prevented."
 Nevertheless, Hayes insisted that the connection between al Qaeda and Saddam and "folks who work for him" has been seen "time and time again." this is like the bizarro world of the DSM. Ok, what specific items has Hayes seen that the rest of the world missed?

He's delusional, or flat out lying
But I'll give him a chance to put up or shut up

That's nice of you, but one shouldn't make ridiculous assertions like that without any proof/documentation to back it up.

I saw this on CNN live. He had such an arrogant tone of voice.

McCain's an unusually honest politician (whether you agree with his views or not).
If he says there's no strong link in that classified evidence, he's probably telling you like it is.

Which is why I believe him to be delusional.. or flat out lying
Why do you think he made that statement?

Easy.
For the same reason some people make comments connecting Hitler and Bush. It plants a seed for further use and makes the next time its uttered less shocking. Its kind of like pre-heating the oven.

Just because there is no strong evidence, doesn't mean it isn't true. It just means someone covered their tracks well, or it isn't true. Yet, if you look at the persons actions you get the feeling if they are guilty or not. With something of this level, you can't just walk away and say it's all circumstantial. You have to act on it in order to protect. In other words, pre-emptive strikes.
Easy.

Its not the same..
A comparison is really an OPINION.. You might not think Bush is at all like Hitler.. you might think he's more like Stalin.. I might think he's more like Stalin, than Hitler.. Who is right? that's subjective...
To make a definitive statement however is something you should be able to back up
if I were to say, Bush is a member of the Nazi party.. that's no longer an opinion, but in that case I'm state a "fact" that I should be able to back up...
Its alot different than saying, "Bush is like Hitler"... perhaps he is.. in height... or in speaking style.. or in his favorite food, or in his policies.. etc, etc

Right. but even the man who ordered the strikes has said , WITHOUT A DOUBT .. that Saddam was not linked in any way with 9/11

My point was that it floats the idea, and judging by the way things have worked the last few years, an *official* voice floating the opinion will make it rote within weeks.
Thats what I mean by pre-heating the oven. Now, when the chorus of "Saddam was linked" starts, the target audience will be less apt to question it.
Its not the same..

I must have missed that. I'll look for a link. He wasn't speaking to the survey polls?
CNN has said that Bushs War reasons were like merky water which were like little reasons to happen.

I am seeing news reports of him saying there is no evidence. But not of him saying that he is not responsible. Still looking...

LOL.. ok.. .
there it is.. the Old Rightie argument..
NO ONE CAN PROVE THAT SADDAM DIDN"T DO IT!
well that is true.. it is IMPOSSIBLE in any argument, EVER, to prove a negative..
When one says, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE LINKING SADDAM TO 9/11.. that MEANS.. SADDAM had nothing to do with it... Unless of course you can show something to suggest otherwise
The Righties engage in failed reason.. .they suggest that Saddam was behind 9/11... unless it can be proven that he wasn't.. Its an arbitrary proposal , and it is impossible to "prove that he wasn't"... Just as YOU can't prove that Bush wasn't behind 9/11.. its impossible
I must have missed that. I'll look for a link. He wasn't speaking to the survey polls?
Read the article I posted

N.C. congressional candidate sells gas for $1.22 per gallon
BISCOE N.C.
A Democratic candidate for Congress pumped up his campaign Thursday by peddling gasoline for $1.22 per gallon.
Larry Kissell said that was the price of gas when his Republican opponent Rep. Robin Hayes first took office in 1998.
About 500 motorists took advantage of Kissell's offer, lining up at the station more than four hours before the cheap petrol went on sale.
Kissell, a Democrat, used the stunt to highlight a few of his campaign talking points. The social studies teacher accused Hayes of working in the interests of oil companies and rejecting proposals that would have expanded alternative fuel.
"Robin Hayes has helped create the high cost of gas in North Carolina, and I'm going to be a part of the solution to lowering gas costs in North Carolina," Kissell said.
Kissell may have accomplished that feat Thursday. But his campaign had to cover the difference between the $1.22 and Thursday's price $2.89 a gallon for regular unleaded at Benjy Dunn's Filling Station in downtown Biscoe.
Meanwhile, Hayes' staff noted the congressman had backed a number of alternative fuel proposals. He introduced a bill in May to support the industry and publicized his efforts by filling up at a gas station in Charlotte with ethanol-based fuel.
Hayes has also supported a measure that seeks to double the number of ethanol fuel pumps nationwide. The U.S. House passed that legislation last week.
