View Full Version : Saudi Arabia Exempt From Nuke Inspections
Jun 16, 9:23 AM (ET)
By GEORGE JAHN
VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Board members of the U.N. atomic watchdog agency approved a deal Thursday that exempts Saudi Arabia from nuclear inspections, despite serious misgivings about the arrangement in an era of heightened proliferation fears.
Although the Saudis resisted Western pressure to compromise and allow some form of monitoring, the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency had no choice but to allow it to sign on to the agreement.
Called the small quantities protocol, the deal allows countries whose nuclear equipment or activities are thought to be below a minimum threshold to submit a declaration instead of undergoing inspection.
There is little concern the Saudis are trying to make nuclear arms, but diplomats accredited to the meeting said Riyadh's resistance to inspections - and any new deals limiting the IAEA's powers to investigate - were disconcerting at a time of increased fears countries or terrorists might be interested in acquiring such weapons.

I really do hate Saudi Arabia, and how our leaders suck their sand encrusted nut sacks.

Don't support them. Quit buying thier oil.I don't. I walk or ride my bicycle. It can make some aspects of modern living more difficult, but it's something I do regardless. It's just more money to supply fucking terrorists with weapons and supplies to kill Americans and our allies. I may start buying again when either a.) the Saudis discontinue funding Wahabbist Islamic fundamentalists, or b.) the United States seizes the Saudi Arabian oil fields. Both aren't likely.

You mean the IAEA?
That Agency at the UN basically created by the U.S.:
"The Agency's genesis was US President Eisenhower's "Atoms for Peace" address to the General Assembly of the United Nations on 8 December 1953. These ideas helped to shape the IAEA Statute, which 81 nations unanimously approved in October 1956. The Statute outlines the three pillars of the Agency's work - nuclear verification and security, safety and technology transfer"
and of which we are a current member
them?

Where do your loyalties lay.... with the US first or to Israel first? lets say they fell out whose side would you be on?I understand your point, but I just stated that I do not buy it myself. I know this country manages itself on much Saudi oil, and I would hope that our government would do everything in their power to reduce, or completely obliterate that dependency.
Saudi Arabia is only an Ally to our government, but not one of mine.
I made this avatar for shits-and-giggles, because a few people on this message board labeled me a "Zionist Neo-Con", so I figured, "what the hell - I'll indulge them."
My loyalties lie to, and only to this nation. I wouldn't care if our government ceased support of Israel, as war with the surrounding Arab states would likely ensue, solving the Middle East problem once and for all.
Am I extreme? Yes, I won't deny it.

An ally?? What in God's name has Saudi Arabia provided us that you would call them an ally? Shit, they wouldn't even let us use their bases to stage from in Iraq. Some ally.

Yes they did - back in 1991.

The Saudi government while they roll in the riches tells their people that the USA is the reason why they are poor. No wonder people around the world may not like our government leaders who are told the same thing.

I meant in this past war. I know they did in 91 but I'd be quite willing to wager that was more for personal interest than any kind of altruism.
So who has thought that maybe our good Ally Pakistan has shipped nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia? I would say yes, along with other muslim countries that asked for it (within reason). Iran and Lybia for sure but who else might be out there? I'd say Egypt and Saudi Arabia are a good guess.

And look at this, how tragic, how well timed ; )

LONDON, June 19: The man behind Pakistan's prestigious nuclear program was rushed to a military hospital Thursday (June 16) with a heart problem. Dr AQ Khan, who lives in ignominy and incarceration since he was singled out by Musharraf for export of nuclear technology, is learnt to have been rendered into a vegetable.
Enormous strain and stress, third-degree methods to question him and to keep him silent on the role Pakistani military generals, the larger partners in the nuclear super market, has almost crippled him to the extent that the words he utters cannot even be deciphered by his own family or the language experts.

There's more to what happened to Khan than meets the eye. Something makes me think of how quickly "Lee Harvey Oswald" was silenced following the assination of Kennedy.... I don't compare the two however point out that Khan couldn't have acted alone in the dispersol.. and now apparently he's effectively been silenced
DEBKAfile Exclusive: Saudis to purchase nuclear option, advanced missiles and spy satellites off the shelf from Pakistan and Russia
February 15, 2007, 3:27 PM (GMT+02:00)
Moscow will assist in Saudi development of a civilian nuclear program and build six “research satellites” for the oil kingdom. DEBKAfile’s Gulf intelligence sources report this was agreed in the talks held in Riyadh earlier this week by visiting Russian president Vladimir Putin and King Abdullah. Israeli military sources report that Moscow in fact undertook to provide Saudi Arabia with half a dozen military surveillance satellites, launch them and set up ground control centers, thereby making the oil kingdom the first Middle East national with a multiple spy satellite capability for tracking the military movements of its neighbors, including Iran and Israel.
This Saudi-Russian venture has got Israel worried because it will enable Riyadh to pick up highly sensitive intelligence on its military movements and relay it to Egypt and the Palestinians.
This development confirms DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s previous disclosures that the Saudis do not intend wasting time developing their own military capabilities but are going shopping for finished products.
On Jan. 21, Saudi rulers favored visiting Pakistani president Gen. Pervez Musharraf with exception honors when he arrived at the outset of a tour of five Arab capitals. DEBKA-Net-Weekly described King Abdullah as personally welcoming the visitor and driving him in the royal convoy to a palace outside the capital where they were closeted alone for three hours. The king also conferred on the Pakistani ruler the King Abdul Aziz Award.
This ceremonial led up to an epic accord of 7 secret clauses on the terms in which Pakistan would make nuclear weapons available to, and sell, Saudi Arabia nuclear-capable missiles. DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s sources revealed that Musharraf undertook to make them available in the event of a nuclear emergency facing Saudi Arabia, the Gulf emirates, Egypt or Jordan. A mechanism was thus set up for Saudi Arabia to potentially beat Iran to the draw in acquiring a nuclear bomb, as well as controlling the security of its allies.
