No.. actually I don't support all of those things listed...

I was just making the arguments that I hear from my friends and family about why they voted for Bush (I voted for Bush in 2000 for SOME of those reasons.. he got me too.. I admit it.. THE FIRST TIME around)

I favor allowing women to make that choice in consultation with their doctors.. I also favor allowing states to make the choice on the gay marriage issue

Just to clear that up

I voted for Bush as I felt he was the lesser evil.

I realize that I need to vote for a different party or not vote at all. Supporting either of these shit heads means I am responsible for all the crap that they do.

Add to that list:

I voted for Bush because he was going to implement or introduce Medical Malpractice Tort Reform. - PUNKED

I voted for Bush because he was supposed to be the no bullshit ass-kicker from Texas that would strengthen our southern border with Mexico without worrying about kissing asses. - Punked

He is sucking President Fox's cock and balls on immigration and trade issues, not looking out for American's well being, and our border security, with illegal aliens, drug trafficking, and potential port of entry for terrorists.

I voted for Bush. For my own reasons. I wasnt punked because I made that decision with open eyes and based in no small part in the FACT that there was no other viable choice. Period. Not in the Democratic party, the Libertian party is a bigger joke than the dems and no other 3rd party would have made a difference. I had hopes...we always do. And though many of my hopes have been crushed, I wont apologize for my decision.

Punked? That you think there might have been something better in what we were offered means YOU were the one that was Punked.

I voted for Bush because I wanted a tax cut... I got that.. but instead of cutting spending to balance the books, the bastard CHARGED IT TO MY KID'S CREDIT CARD, so they get to pay it back WITH INTEREST

as of today, im not voting in 08. There is nothing different about any candidate. They just flap their gums to get into office and once in, they are controlled by the puppet masters. I realize now that there isn't any such thing as lesser of two evils. A third party (or 20 for that matter) will be prevented from legitimately running. It is just more of the same.

I'm voting for Paul in the Republican primary.. That means I have to go an REREGISTER as a Republican in NY... but who knows.. Paul might even drop out before the Primary.

We'll see..

but as far as the 2008 election if its Hillary versus McCain, Guiliani or Romney, I'll stay home and have a drunken protest, hopefully culminating in a group vomit on our ballots, around 10 pm or so.

If Obama runs, I'll probably still drink, but I'll try to find a ride to the voting place and vote for him, in case he wins. I can tell my kids I voted for the first black President.

There are some very good arguments supporting a non-voting protest. I'm not going to vote again, I don't think. It was very liberating not voting in the last election. I saw no difference in my choices of candidates, and none of them had principles I could support. There are other ways to affect the kind of changes that one wants to see take place.

One change I would like to see is a "none of the above" selection on ballots. If "none of the above" won the majority, a new slate of candidates would need to be put forth. It might result in some offices being empty for a bit, but I see no harm in that - the less time government is in session, the less they can fuck things up. Would also go a long way of getting rid of the vermin who get votes because there are just no other "winnable" candidates on the ballots.

Gore and Kerry just weren't options for me.

As poorly as Bush has done, he's still an order of magnitude better than those two turds. That's a sad reflection.

Sometimes you have to go with what (or who) you feel is the lesser of two evils...unfortunately sometimes that comes back to bite you in the ass. :sad_01:

I've done the same on the last two Presidential elections. It is a form of protest, but I absolutely hate the anal's saying, "well, then you have no right to complain". Yeh, I do.

Fuck 'em.

Seriously.

Here's (http://www.strike-the-root.com/vote.html) a slew of good articles if anyone is interested in reading.

Working to effect change in this country does not solely consist of voting. I do several other things to try to influence what is going on locally, in the state and in the country, as I'm sure you and all other non-voters do as well. To say that there is no "right" to complain is stupid.

Yes, it's stupid. If those people were honest about it they'd say that you don't have the credibility to complain. If voting were the only way to effect change (yeah, like voting for a Dem instead of a Repub or vice versa is effecting any change), then they'd have a point...

Yep. Continually putting people made from the same political genetic material into positions of leadership gives them the right to complain, but not the people who refuse to participate in giving the damned crooks and liars so much power. Makes no logical sense.

there are other parties and candidates, but realistically the numbers dictate that only one of two will get the big chair.

the elections have been close enough that third party candidates have wound up getting their archnemises elected.

Ask Perot or Nader

I don't think its as much a product of the system as it is a product of tradition. Why is two the magic number? why do we limit ourselves to two while some place like Mexico has three options? I think we've just been saddled with two for so long that we simply accept there can be only two (with apologies to the Highlander).
