Exactly. I knew one person who bred pit bulls, and even though they were solid muscle, they were pretty docile. He said that if someone broke into his house, they would probably trip over one of them before being attacked by one of them.

My kids were raised around three wonderful pitbulls (half pit, half british bulldog) they were monsterous and scared the hell out of anybody who saw them, but gentle as lambs (as long as you weren't a squirrel).

My daughter used to ride them and use them as a pillow near the fireplace when she was little (5 years old).

The ex-wife had a tea-cup pomerianian that would chase them all over the farm. They could have swallowed it without chewing if they wanted too.

If assholes train them to attack or abuse them and then don't secure the animals to keep the public safe from what they have created - hold them, the people, accountable, not the dog.

This is remotely related to the topic at hand. I was in a trivia chatroom and this guy decides to come in and ask everyone what he should do with his dog that just bit half his daughter's face off. I told him to shoot the dog.

Now I'm a heartless inhumane bitch because I supported shooting a poor defenseless cute widdle puppy that just ate half a kid's face.

I told him that when his daughter winds up being killed by the dog, he should just shoot himself.

Directly on topic, I think bad dogs are not born, they are made. Some breeds may be more sensitive to agression training, but no dog is born EVIL.

I am with the general concensus here. My honey has one full pit and one half pit half lab. The half lab dog is one dumb, happy dog... the lab shows through. The full pit is a very friendly dog and is actually extremely ANTIviolent. If I smack my honey on the ass anywhere near the dog, she either knocks my hand away or nips at my fingers and barks a lot. Damn thing is a little muscular tank. When she does something bad you can't just tap her nose and say bad dog, she doesn't even notice it. When shecrapped in the middle of the kitchen the other day I slapped her across the ass as hard as I could and screamed at her. That put her head down in shame as she scampered into the corner.

We baby sat a puppy pit and he peed on my kitchen floor. I looked at him in utter contempt and said "naughty puppy!" He laid his ears back and looked at me with those big brown eyes that just made me feel like crap for saying anything. I'm a pushover for baby animals. :sad_01:

I tend to fall in the middle on this issue. I think that there's no question that pit's are a bit more temperamental, but given the right environment and the right care, they can be brought up to be quite docile and gentle with humans. The same is true of grizzly bears and tigers, however.

The problem is when a pit takes a hard nip at someone or mistakes someone for an intruder on their territory, they can do a heck of a lot more damage than most dogs but as someone else said earlier, the same is true of the German Sheppherd. It all comes down to stupid owners not properly caring of their dogs and not researching exactly what their getting themselves into.
