Sweden (Country threat level - 2): A diplomatic vehicle burst into flames outside of the Russian Embassy in Stockholm late on 22 March 2005, the apparent result of a fire-bomb attack. There were no reports of injuries, but the vehicle was severely damaged by the fire. A group calling itself "Global Intifada" claimed responsibility for the attack, reportedly in response to Russia's involvement in Chechnya. Swedish authorities increased security measures around the embassy following the incident.

Politicians reject Imam's proposal of blood money
3. juni 2005 16:10

Integration Minister, Rikke Hvilshøj, has rejected a proposal from Imam Abu Laban that blood money be paid to the family of a man who was killed in Nørrebro last weekend and whose funeral takes place today. Since the shooting of the 24 year old and the wounding of his older brother, there has been much speculation among police and in the press about when revenge would be taken.

But according to the Imam, who is conducting the funeral ceremony today, the thirst for revenge could be cooled if 200,000 kroner were paid either by the family of the doorman who fired the shots or by the Islamic community. He said the practice of paying blood money to the family of a deceased person was normal in Muslim societies. Rikke Hvilshøj says such action could harm the entire integration process in Denmark.

..makes angels cry
May 31, 2005

The last 3 months have exploded in perker crime - men dropped at intensive care with shot wounds and no intention of explaining anything to anyone, several gunshot incidents at Christiania as fights over drug-markets ensue. Some of the men from the episode above are also featuring in the shooting episodes: "a lot of coinciding names.." as the police calls it.

Forget the Hells Angels and other biker-gangs, the big problem is 350 extremely criminal perkere who's causing most of the problems - all between 15-24 year old males from muslims countries, mostly turkey and "palestine". They are the true terrorizers of our country, makes everybody afraid, makes an insecure society. A commission on the police of the future, estimates that due to demographic changes alone, the Danes will be LESS criminal while the immigrants (perkere) will make youth crime rise by twenty percent! The number of cases of crime will overall rise 5 percent, while cases of crime made by immigrants will rise by 75% to 140.000 in the year 2025. This will hurt a lot of innocent people... "Men with non-western background" are currently 161% more criminal than Danes. Already a lot of innocent people are hurt...

I have before expressed my frustration with our laws that in effect may hurt the wrong one, the one that should have been celebrated instead of punished. Now it had has happened again, that criminals with evil intentions have succeeded in luring an otherwise good citizen into the trapdoor of civil society and gotten away with it almost at no cost. Once more showed ordinary people that mafia-methods and bullies are ruling the streets of the cities.

A bunch of the most hardcore and very criminal Perkere, came to Café Rust in Copenhagen to take revenge on the doormen, especially one of them - The doormen have previously denied the perkere entrance (such as is illegal but sound policy in all of the country. (for business since white guests leave, for the health of the remaining guests, for peace and order at the place etc.) and this time are supposed to pay for it. They are pushed into an alley and both clubs and broken bottles are drawn and readied. Obviously afraid, one of them pulls a gun and shoots, leaving one of the perkere dead and one wounded - brothers.

The police arrives and clears the scene while the rest of the perkere gathers a large group of friends and freaks out. (as is getting common when perkere or immigrants are arrested) The wounded is brought to the hospital where his friends soon enter and free him! (the two guards couldn't go much against the 8-man big "rescue-party")The wounded is helped to flee from the scene and two of the perkere is arrested. Some of the perkere breaks into the doormans car, which is parked just outside, and trashes it, empties it of contents and smashes his personal belongings after having removed some of them to a car of their own. The rest of them makes an improvised memorial in the middle of the street for their dead friend, but the police makes them move to the sidewalk. Note that during the whole incident no white Dane interferes because they are scared shit-less of the perkere! They erect a guard around it and shuts off each end of the street for cars, as if they owned the place. This is by the way in stark contrast to the memorial for the Italian tourist Antonio Curra who was killed by two perkere, which was constantly destroyed and mourners heckled.

The doorman, who only tried to defend himself from the aggressive perkere, who outnumbered him and his friend by 3 to 1, is certain to get convicted for something in relation to firearms at the very least, which is sort of OK because it is illegal to carry arms, but it's also worth to remember that there have to be a cause for him carrying a firearm - it's no secret that the milieu around doormen are getting increasingly violent - as the behavior of the perkere before the shooting proves. And a doorman is not protected from the revenge of perkere with blackened hearts even when he's not on the job.... I understand him completely. He will never get a job in that business again, not with a stained record on him. And he will have to go into hiding for the perkere will never give up on finding him and killing him, his wife have already pulled up the tent-poles along with their toddler. They will never be able to live a normal life again... But the perkere who surrounds the ones arrested, killed and wounded so far, are still going loose, with the most evil of intentions!!

It's not fair!
And it makes angels cry.

Update pr. 3/6: Imam Abu Laban stated that blood feuds could be avoided for a mere prize of 33K USD / 200K DKK - and graciously promised to be able to raise this amount, should the "killers"'s family not. Integrationminister Hvilshøj is "appalled". If paid, the mother will be financially rewarded for bringing to life FIVE sons who are all deeply criminal! (four left now) And primitive customs of primitive peoples will have proven the only sensible solution for dealing with primitive people in our advanced civilization...

Today the bastard was buried - more than a thousand people attended. The criminal was celebrated as a hero. His picture will likely be spraypainted on the walls of the area, like in the "palestine" from which he originates.

....makes angels cry.

Doormen arm themselves against immigrants
2. juni 2005 08:34

Doormen working in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, are often armed with guns or clubs so as to be able to defend themselves against violent immigrant gangs, the owner of a private security company told Danish media this morning. According to the security company manager, it is more dangerous than ever before to be a doorman. There is more violence than ever before and some immigrant gangs have even been known to seek out doormen at their private homes.

Copenhagen police said this morning that the police would focus more on the doormen in the future, and added that the armed conflict between the doormen and immigrant gangs gave cause for concern. At the same time, the police force in the Danish capital is also going to do more to fight gang crime in Copenhagen, monitoring and registrating all immigrants who are gang members.

Norway criticized for Christian quota
30 Sep 2005, 12:21

Norway's Constitution requires that over half of the government cabinet are members of the state church - the Norwegian Helsinki Committee says this provision is a violation of human rights. "It cannot be so that one has to join a certain religious community in order to be a cabinet minister. Not if there is to be true religious freedom," NHC assistant secretary general Gunnar M. Karlsen told newspaper Dagsavisen. Karlsen believes it is time to revise Norway's Constitution.

Lawyer Njål Høstmælingen at the Center for Human Rights at the University of Oslo agrees with this interpretation. "The Constitution's paragraph 12 is in conflict with both the United Nations convention on civil and political rights and the European Council's human rights convention," Høstmælingen said.

The new 'red-green' coalition government of the Labor, Socialist Left and Center parties is currently hammering out their common policy platform, but are likely to favor such a change. Incoming prime minister Jens Stoltenberg (Labor) told Dagsavisen that he would await the conclusion of the state-church committee before making a final stance. Stoltenberg is not a member of the state church, but Socialist Left Party leader Kristin Halvorsen and Center Party leader Åslaug Haga both are.

Danish artists scared of Islam
16. september 2005 11.31 English

Since the murder of the Islam critical Dutch film director Theo van Gogh, and the violent attack on a lecturer at the Danish Carsten Niebuhr Institute, Danish artists are fearful of criticising Islam. Author, Kåre Bluitgen, is due to publish a book on the profit Mohammed in two weeks time, but so far no one has agreed to illustrated the work through fear of reprisals from Islamic extremists.

According to the author, three artists have turned down an offer to illustrate the book based on their fear of being attacked if they do so. The president of the Danish Writers Union, Frants Iver Gundelach, said that it is a gross attack on freedom of speech, and the issue will be taken up at the next union meeting.

Imam demands apology for Mohammed cartoons
Published 06.10.05 15:30

A Muslim cleric in Århus demands that daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten apologises for publishing cartoons featuring the prophet Mohammed. Daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten is facing accusations that it deliberately provoked and insulted Muslims by publishing twelve cartoons featuring the prophet Mohammed. The newspaper urged cartoonists to send in drawings of the prophet, after an author complained that nobody dared to illustrate his book on Mohammed. The author claimed that illustrators feared that extremist Muslims would find it sacrilegious to break the Islamic ban on depicting Mohammed. Twelve illustrators heeded the newspaper's call, and sent in cartoons of the prophet, which were published in the newspaper one week ago.

Daily newspaper Kristeligt Dagblad said one Muslim, at least, had taken offence. 'This type of democracy is worthless for Muslims,' Imam Raed Hlayhel wrote in a statement. 'Muslims will never accept this kind of humiliation. The article has insulted every Muslim in the world. We demand an apology!'

Jyllands-Posten described the cartoons as a defence for 'secular democracy and right to expression'. Hlayhel, however, said the newspaper had abused democracy with the single intention of humiliating Muslims.

Lars Refn, one of the cartoonists who participated in the newspaper's call to arms, said he actually agreed with Hlayhel. Therefore, his cartoon did not feature the prophet Mohammed, but a normal Danish schoolboy Mohammed, who had written a Persian text on his schoolroom's blackboard. 'On the blackboard it says in Persian with Arabic letters that 'Jyllands-Posten's journalists are a bunch of reactionary provocateurs',' Refn said. 'Of course we shouldn't let ourselves be censored by a few extremist Muslims, but Jyllands-Posten's only goal is to vent the fires as soon as they get the opportunity. There's nothing constructive in that.'

Flemming Rose, cultural editor at the newspaper, denied that the purpose had been to provoke Muslim. It was simply a reaction to the rising number of situations where artists and writers censured themselves out of fear of radical Islamists, he said. 'Religious feelings cannot demand special treatment in a secular society,' he added. 'In a democracy one must from time to time accept criticism or becoming a laughingstock.'

It is not the first time Hlayhel has created headlines in Denmark. One year ago, he became the target of criticism from Muslims and non-Muslims alike, when he said in a sermon during Friday prayer, that Danish women's behaviour and dress invited rape.

More arrests over Denmark 'plot'
Saturday, 29 October 2005

Two more young men have been remanded in custody in Denmark in connection with a suspected terrorist cell. The arrests bring to six the number arrested in a case said to have links to Bosnia. All police are willing to say is that the two knew the four who were remanded in custody at the end of the week. The remand hearing was heard behind double closed doors, which means no details about the two men or charges against them may be made public.

What the police authorities are willing to say is that the two have been detained on suspicion of possible conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack, the same generic charges that the four detained on Thursday night are facing. Danish police are said to have been tipped off by the Bosnian police about a possible terrorist cell in Denmark following the arrest of what appears to have been a suicide group in Bosnia. That group, according to the Bosnian police, had been preparing to attack either the British or American embassies in Sarajevo and a large amount of explosives, weapons, a suicide belt and a video recording were found in their flats.

It remains unclear what the link between the group in Bosnia and the group in Copenhagen may have been, although the Danish police say they believe they are able to connect the two. They say they cannot rule out that the group in Denmark was also planning an attack, although they have no direct evidence of that. The case comes at a time when Denmark is experiencing severe problems in relations with its Muslim community.

Ten ambassadors from Islamic countries have complained bitterly to the Danish authorities over the publication in one of the country's main broadsheet newspapers of a series of caricatures of the prophet Mohammed. The prime minister has refused to meet the ambassadors in the case, who in turn have threatened to cause an international diplomatic incident if the prime minister at least does not issue a statement saying he disapproves of the caricatures. Eleven Muslim organisations have also now filed a police complaint for blasphemy against the newspaper.

It is in this atmosphere that the arrest of six, 16-20-year old Muslims on what appears so far at least to be very flimsy evidence may serve to further alienate the Muslim community in Denmark.

Several days of Muslim Riots in Denmark (Not only in France)
Jyllands Posten ^ | Offentliggjort 31. oktober 2005 03:00 | Af ERIK THOMLE
Posted on 10/31/2005 11:42:54 PM PST by Eurotwit

For several nights in a row, there has been the worst riots in Århus for many years. "This land belongs to us", declared the young rioters. Another arson attack took place sunday night. Sunday evening the fire department needed police escorts to get in and extinguish an arsonist fire in Søndervangs Alle.

The words of the young muslims sound like an open declaration of war against Danish society. The police must stay away. This area belongs to immigrants. Four youngsters sit at the wall in the Rosenhøj center, sunday afternoon, self decleared spokesmen, for those groups who three nights in a row has rioted, and put business on fire. All around the parking lot, there are swarms of cars with youngster from the immigrant community, who are celebrating the worst riots in Århus in several years. Every night, 30 to 40 immigrant youngsters participated. Only two are under arrest.

It was a victory. "We knew that you would come. We are the spokesmen", said one young man with his face covered. He was angry. Very angry.

Petrol though the window.

At the back of the house was a window broken, and the fire was burning wildly, probably because of petrol that had been thrown in. The fire engines waited for police escort so they could enter in and try to put out the fires.

Bricks from the street have been thrown and crushed windows all up the street. The police reports that the youngsters came to the area armed with rocks that they brought in. Rocks against a bakery. Saturday, a 16 year old from Somalia was jailed for comitting dangerous violence, because he attacked a bakery with large rocks. One rock barely missed the bakers face.

Raids.

"We are tired of being oppressed. We are tired of the police raiding our parents. We are tired of the police stopping our cars, and raids us in public and damages our honour.» "We are tired of the police beating up our friends, like they did this afternoon", screams the younf man with his face covered. He calles himself 100 percent palestinian, born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, 19 years ago, and is now unemployed in Denmark.

"The police has to stay away. This is our area. We rule this place"

And then comes the cartoons of Mohammed. "We are angy to what has happened to our profet. We are tired of the Jyllands Post (Danish paper who published cartoons of Mohammed). I know that it wasn't you, but we are not going to take this, what the Jyllands Post has done towards the profet", he states aggressivly, and the others nod in agreement.

Planned for three weeks.

Two of them are Turks, and it is the first time that Turks and Palestinians have joined forces, according to the spokesman. "We have planned this for three weeks. That's why only two were arrested on Saturday. Police tried to block us in, but we now how to get out", he states and dissapears chewing on a piece of pizza that he has looted from Fun Pizza.

Jihad Against Danish Newspaper
From the desk of Paul Belien on Sat, 2005-10-22 21:25

Islam is no laughing matter. The Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten is being protected by security guards and several cartoonists have gone into hiding after the newspaper published a series of twelve cartoons (view them here) [the link appears to have been taken down by Jyllands-Posten] about the prophet Muhammad. According to the Islam it is blasphemous to make images of the prophet. Muslim fundamentalists have threatened to bomb the paper’s offices and kill the cartoonists.

The newspaper published the cartoons when a Danish author complained that he could find no-one to illustrate his book about Muhammad. Jyllands-Posten wondered whether there were more cases of self-censorship regarding Islam in Denmark and asked twelve illustrators to draw the prophet for them. Carsten Juste, the paper’s editor, said the cartoons were a test of whether the threat of Islamic terrorism had limited the freedom of expression in Denmark. ...

Islamic Radicals Plan World Revolution from Temple Mount
09:27 Nov 14, '05 / 12 Cheshvan 5766

Islamic radicals have been using the Temple Mount as a focal point for planning and preaching the establishment of a world Islamic state with Jerusalem as its capital. One of the radical groups operating on the Temple Mount is Hizab Altahrir (The Islamic Liberation Party), which espouses an ideology similar to Al Qaeda. Hizab Altahrir’s network spans most Western European countries. The party puts Islamic revolution and an uncompromising form of Jihad (holly war) at the top of its political agenda.

The group advocates subjecting the entire world to Islamic law (Shariya), and destroying non-believing nations and religions. The party has targeted Europe, specifically Denmark, for spreading its ideology, and providing a springboard for renewing Islamic conquests in Europe. A senior party activist in Jerusalem, Sheikh Issam Amira, expressed this philosophy in a recent speech which he made on the Temple Mount:

“Listeners! The Moslems in Denmark make up three percent [of the population], yet constitute a threat to the future of the Danish kingdom. It’s no surprise that in Bitrab (the ancient name of Medina, a city in Arabia to which Mohammed immigrated) they were fewer than three percent of the general population, but succeeded changing the regime in Bitrab. It’s no surprise that our brothers in Denmark have succeeded in bringing Islam to every home in that country. Allah will grant us victory in their land to establish the [Islamic] revolution in Denmark.”

After Denmark, the Sheikh said, the party will carry the revolution to Oslo and change its name to Medina. “They will fight against their Scandinavian neighbors in order to bring the country into the territory of the revolution,” he said. “In the next stage, they will fight a holy jihad to spread Islam to the rest of Europe, until it spreads to the original city of Medina where the two cities will unite under the Islamic flag.” ...

Norway staging post for terrorists
Thursday December 01 2005

Norwegian security police believe that several people linked to major terrorist networks use the country as a base between operations abroad. The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) has other persons linked to the 2004 terrorist attack in Madrid and recent terrorism arrests in Italy under surveillance.

The PST believes that Norway is used by 'freelance' terrorists as a place to lie low and plan activities, newspaper VG reports. By using false identities and convincing cover stories these persons can stay hidden in Norway for long periods, posing as asylum seekers, tourists, or by arranging unfounded family reunions.

The PST considers their major challenge to be the discovery and hindrance of efforts to make Norway a haven for financing or equipping terrorists. VG quoted an anonymous security source as saying that the PST strives to keep on top of dangers to Europe that stem from Norway, but that the task was extremely difficult due to the large number of "potentially dangerous persons residing in Norway".

Cartoons of Mohammed cause death threat

The events surrounding the publication of drawings of the prophet Mohammed in the Danish daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten a couple of months ago has taken an even more dramatic turn for the worse.

A large Islamic extremist party in Pakistan has offered a reward of 50,000 kroner to anyone who kills any of the artists. The Danish ambassador in Islamabad, Bent Wigotski, reports that it isthe extremist Jamaaat-e-Islami party and it youth organisation who have offered the bounty money. They have also demanded the ambassador leave Pakistan.

The foreign office has advised all Danish citizens entering Pakistan to be extra vigilant as it is not only the twelve artist who have angered the fundamentalists. They have warned against backpacking across Pakistan with a Danish flag upon your rucksack. The Pakistani ambassador in Denmark has distanced himself from the death threats and said that the authorities in Pakistan will probably be investigating the case.

Frevert's replacement: Islam is terror
01.12.05 14:00

A few days after the Danish People's Party (DF) punished its Copenhagen mayoral candidate for publishing racist remarks on her website, removing her from the post as the party spokesman on educational affairs, her successor went ahead and described the Muslim religion as a terrorist movement. Defeated mayoral candidate Louise Frevert's website compared Muslims with cancer tumours in Danish society, causing a public outrage. Though she blamed the statement on her website editor, DF sanctioned her by removing her from a number of spokesman posts in parliament, including the one on educational policies.

Daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende, however, reported that new spokesman Martin Henriksen's website was no more positive towards Muslims than his predecessor's. 'From its beginning, Islam has been a terrorist movement,' Henriksen stated on his website, warning against letting Muslims run for office in parliament and municipal councils. 'It's well known that Islam is lying low, well-knowing that no Islamic group or state has the military power it takes to conquer us. The goal we know, the method is to quietly take over and infiltrate our democratic institutions,' Henriksen said on his website.

Danish converts to Islam get their share of the blame as 'moral criminals'. 'These young Danes, who turn their backs on their heritage and thereby all of us, are committing an indescribable moral crime,' the website stated.

The website was discussed in a DF parliamentary group meeting on Thursday, where Henriksen said he had received full backing from his fellow party members. 'It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that an MP from the Danish People's Party is critical of Islam. It's a part of the party's policy, so I'm not removing anything from my website,' Henriksen told national broadcaster DR.

Samira Munir - Champion for Muslim Women
Monday, December 05, 2005

Samira Munir, Norwegian politician of Pakistani origins, died on November 14, 2005. All the details surrounding her death have not been revealed, but the police have hinted that it may have been suicide. It is not impossible that this could be the case, but she had received death threats many times from the Pakistani community in Norway because of her courageous fight for the rights of Muslim immigrant women, and for banning hijab, the Islamic veil. The website of Human Rights Service brought the shocking news that Samira had died under circumstances which still seem mysterious. Officially, she was killed by a train at Kolbotn station, one of the suburban lines outside Oslo. However, there has been quite a lot of speculation unofficially that the details surrounding her death don't add up, and that she may have been killed or even was dead before she was hit by the train.

Muslim men go to great lengths in Western European nations to control their women from outside influence and signs of independence. In Denmark recently, a number of taxi drivers with immigrant backgrounds were spying on female immigrants who were hiding from their families. Taxi drivers using mobile phones are photographing females, who are seeking asylum in crisis centres, and their whereabouts are being sent onto their families. A group of Taxi drivers informed a Pakistani man recently, who was looking for his sister, where she could be found. The man murdered his sister outside Slagelse train station because she had married a man from Afghanistan against her families orders. Samira Munir invoked the wrath of very powerful people with her fight against the veil and for the liberty of Muslim women. A Pakistani by birth, she was even threatened by Pakistani authorities and Pakistan's ambassador to Norway on several occasions.

Munir received many death threats against herself and her family because of her work as a champion of the rights of Muslim immigrant women. In an interview earlier this year, she claimed to receive threatening phone calls on an almost daily basis, and that Muslim men would stop her in the streets, intimidating her and threatening to kill her. She told that Muslim girls who refuse to wear the veil are seen as whores. She also claimed that there was widespread cooperation between the Socialist parties and Muslim communities during this year's elections in Norway. "The heads of families and the mosques would decide how entire groups of immigrants would vote. They made deals such as "How much money will we get if we get our people to vote for you?", and the deals were always made with the Socialist parties" said Munir, who was a local politician and a member of the city council in Oslo.

But Munir's own party, the Conservatives, were far from blameless in courting Muslims. Even as she lived with death threats for her fight to ban the veil, her own party leader managed to pass a law that would make any opposition to the veil "discriminatory" and illegal and that those accused of discrimination have to mount proof of their own innocence. Former Cabinet minister and leader of the Conservatives Erna Solberg, who has earlier called for the establishment of a sharia council in Norway, proposed the new act. In a recent case, a local furniture store wouldn't allow a female employee to wear a head scarf, arguing that it violated the store's dress code. Solberg argued that existing law already made it illegal for employers, for example, to prevent women from wearing head scarves if their religion calls for it. Her new law "would make this even more clear."

Samira Munir thus received no support whatsoever from her party in her struggle for the rights of Muslim immigrant women. Quite the contrary, one of her party colleagues, a Muslim, threatened her with a lawsuit for some of her statements. Her proposals to improve the conditions for Muslim women in Norway were continuously sabotaged and backstabbed by the rest of the party. She spoke about how Muslim girls who in public said they wore hijab of their own free will in private confided in her that they were being forced to do so, and urged her to carry on being a voice for those who had neither the possibility nor the courage to speak for themselves.

There are many uncertainties about Samira’s tragic death. But even if it was a suicide it does not add up. A healthy 42-year-old woman and the mother of two does not just jump in front of a train for no reason. As a matter of fact there has to be a very good reason. If that is what actually happened we will probably never know the true reason in detail, but a few facts we do know. We know that both she and her family were being harassed and received death threats, and we know she was being very concerned about the development of the Muslim immigrant community in Norway, which is becoming ever more radical and extremist. The pressure against her, and the bleak outlook for the future can surely be enough to drive a person to commit suicide, and the lack of support from within the Conservative party most certainly did not make it any better. So even if the final act was one of her own choosing her blood remains on the hands of Norwegian Muslims and their appeasers on both sides of the political spectrum.

Perhaps the real question isn't whether Samira Munir was pushed in front of that train, but whether she was pushed physically or just mentally. The night before she died, Samira Munir had expressed great satisfaction on Norwegian radio with the European Court of Human Rights upholding a ruling banning the veil in Turkish universities. She was a brave woman, and will be missed. Her death puts this country to shame. May she rest in peace. But first of all, she is a symbol and a tragic reminder of just how bad the situation is becoming for Muslim women in Europe, and how hypocritical "Multicultural" Europeans are. Even in Scandinavian countries priding themselves of being champions of women's rights, Muslim women who stand up for their rights receive too little support and risk ending up dead in front of a train. Samira Munir's death is thus a warning to Europeans of how dangerous things are starting to become, not just in France, but all over Western Europe.

Swedish terror suspect arrested in Prague
13th December 2005 09:40 CET

A 39-year-old Swede accused of terrorism by the United States has been arrested in Prague, Swedish tabloid Expressen reported on Tuesday. The man, who was not identified, is wanted by the US CIA spy agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which accuse him of being terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden's "man in Sweden", Expressen wrote.

The US has tried to obtain his extradition for several years, accusing him of setting up Al Qaeda training camps in the US state of Oregon in 1999, but Sweden has refused to hand him over, the paper said.

The man was on a Czech Airlines flight from Stockholm to Beirut on Sunday, but never got there after stopping over in Prague, the paper said. The Swedish foreign ministry confirmed that a Swedish man was missing but would not confirm the newspaper's report. "The man's brother has asked us to look into the matter. He did not arrive in Beirut and the brother suspects that he got stuck in Prague," foreign ministry spokeswoman Miriam Mannbro told AFP. However, the first secretary at the Swedish embassy in Prague, Leena Jaanson, told Expressen that the 39-year-old was arrested when he landed in the Czech capital.

The paper said that the Swede was also accused of having links to the group that carried out the July 7th bombings in London. Expressen met the 39-year-old earlier this year when he denied having anything to do with the London bombings. But he stressed that he "loved Bin Laden". "You don't have to be a terrorist to love Bin Laden," he told the paper. According to Expressen, the man was accused in Sweden of plotting terrorist attacks several years ago but was freed for lack of evidence. He was later sentenced to a year behind bars on a weapons offence.

Swede charged in Manhattan with Oregon terror camp plot

By LARRY NEUMEISTER
Associated Press Writer

December 13, 2005, 5:50 PM EST

NEW YORK -- A Lebanese-born Swede has been charged in a plot to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

A criminal complaint charging Oussama Kassir with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists was unsealed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, U.S. Attorney Michael J. Garcia said in a release.

The case relates to an indictment in Manhattan already charging Mustafa Kamel Mustafa and Haroon Aswat in the plot. Mustafa and Aswat are being detained in England while awaiting extradition to the United States.

Kassir, 39, was arrested in Prague, Czech Republic, on Sunday after a warrant was filed with Interpol, Garcia said. He remains detained in Prague as the United States pursues his extradition.

The complaint alleges that Kassir and others conspired to establish a training camp for holy war, or jihad, in Bly, Ore. According to the complaint, Kassir and others wanted to set up the camp to teach military-style jihad methods so a community of Muslims could move to Afghanistan to fight or to be trained more there.

The complaint refers to a letter faxed from one conspirator to another saying that the Bly property was in a "pro-militia and firearms state" that "looks just like Afghanistan" and that the group was "stockpiling weapons and ammunition."

The complaint alleges that on Nov. 26, 1999, Kassir and another conspirator traveled from London to New York and then on to Seattle and Bly to help with the training camp.

Prosecutors said Kassir complained to a witness at Bly that there were only a few men available to train at the camp and that he was not going to waste his time with such a small number of men. Kassir also allegedly complained that the facilities and supplies were inadequate.

The government also said that a witness saw Kassir in possession of a compact disc with information about improvising poisons.

Kassir was detained Sunday at Prague's Ruzyne international airport and had been flying from Stockholm to Beirut, Prague police said.

In a release, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher said, "Supporters of terrorism must know that they should not feel safe in trying to hide overseas. We will work to bring these individuals to justice, however long it takes."

Kassir was born in Lebanon and moved to Sweden in 1984, becoming a Swedish citizen in 1989. He spent several months in prison in 1998 for assaulting a police officer and drug possession.

A Swedish court jailed Kassir for 10 months two years ago for illegal weapons possession.

Aswat was arrested in Zambia in July in connection with the July 7 London subway bombings.

Authorities in Oregon have said the camp never materialized beyond a dozen people taking target practice and was abandoned for unknown reasons. Bly is an unincorporated town of a few hundred people 50 miles east of Klamath Falls.

Immigrant Rape Wave in Sweden
2005/12/13

Swedish girls Malin and Amanda were on their way to a party on New Year's Eve when they were assaulted, raped and beaten half to death by four Somali immigrants. Sweden's largest newspaper has presented the perpetrators as "two men from Sweden, one from Finland and one from Somalia", a testimony as to how bad the informal censorship is in stories related to immigration in Sweden. Similar incidents are reported with shocking frequency, to the point where some observers fear that law and order is completely breaking down in the country. The number of rape charges in Sweden has tripled in just above twenty years. Rape cases involving children under the age of 15 are six - 6 - times as common today as they were a generation ago. Most other kinds of violent crime have rapidly increased, too. Instability is spreading to most urban and suburban areas.

According to a new study from the Crime Prevention Council, Brå, it is four times more likely that a known rapist is born abroad, compared to persons born in Sweden. Resident aliens from Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia dominate the group of rape suspects. According to these statistics, almost half of all perpetrators are immigrants. In Norway and Denmark, we know that non-Western immigrants, which frequently means Muslims, are grossly overrepresented on rape statistics. In Oslo, Norway, immigrants were involved in two out of three rape charges in 2001. The numbers in Denmark were the same, and even higher in the city of Copenhagen with three out of four rape charges. Sweden has a larger immigrant, including Muslim, population than any other country in northern Europe. The numbers there are likely to be at least as bad as with its Scandinavian neighbors. The actual number is thus probably even higher than what the authorities are reporting now, as it doesn't include second generation immigrants. Lawyer Ann Christine Hjelm, who has investigated violent crimes in Svea high court, found that 85 per cent of the convicted rapists were born on foreign soil or by foreign parents.

A group of Swedish teenage girls has designed a belt that requires two hands to remove and which they hope will deter would-be rapists. "It's like a reverse chastity belt," one of the creators, 19-year-old Nadja Björk, told AFP, meaning that the wearer is in control, instead of being controlled. Björk and one of her partners now plan to start a business to mass produce the belts and are currently in negotiations with potential partners. "But I'm not doing this for the money," she said. "I'm really passionate about stopping rape. I think it's terrible." In an online readers' poll from the newspaper Aftonbladet, 82% of the women expressed fear to go outside after dark. There are reports of rapes happening in broad daylight. 30 guests in a Swedish public bath watched as 17 girl was raped recently, and nobody did anything. The girl was first approached by 16-year-old boy. He and his friends followed her as she walked away to the grotto, and inside the grotto he got her blocked in the corner, ripped off her bikini and raped her, while his friend held her firm.

There are even reports of Swedish girls being attacked and cut with knives on the dance floor. A 21-year-old man who came to Sweden a couple of years ago admits that he has a low opinion of Swedish females –or “whores” as he calls them. He is now prosecuted, suspecteded of cutting eight girls in several pubs. He is also charged with raping a girl at a private party, and with sexually harassing another girl in the apartment. Several witnesses claim that the 21 year old has said that he hates Swedish women.

Some Muslim immigrants admit their bias quite openly. An Islamic Mufti in Copenhagen sparked a political outcry after publicly declaring that women who refuse to wear headscarves are "asking for rape." Apparently, he's not the only one thinking this way. “It is not as wrong raping a Swedish girl as raping an Arab girl,” says Hamid. “The Swedish girl gets a lot of help afterwards, and she had probably fucked before, anyway. But the Arab girl will get problems with her family. For her, being raped is a source of shame. It is important that she retains her virginity until she marries.” It was no coincidence that it was a Swedish girl that was gang raped in Rissne – this becomes obvious from the discussion with Ali, Hamid, Abdallah and Richard. All four have disparaging views on Swedish girls, and think this attitude is common among young men with immigrant background. “It is far too easy to get a Swedish whore…… girl, I mean;” says Hamid, and laughs over his own choice of words. “Many immigrant boys have Swedish girlfriends when they are teenagers. But when they get married, they get a proper woman from their own culture who has never been with a boy. That’s what I am going to do. I don’t have too much respect for Swedish girls. I guess you can say they get fucked to pieces.” ...

Man jailed for beating daughter
First published: 14 Mar 2006, 11:38

A court in Kristiansand, southern Norway, has sentenced a man to 120 days in jail for beating his teenage daughter with straps and a metal rod. The beatings were sparked by her admission that she no longer was a virgin. The 49-year-old man, who emigrated to Norway from Iraq, claimed he'd done nothing wrong. He told the court that he was "much kinder" than many other fathers from his culture would have been. He claimed most other men would have killed the girl, instead of "just beating her."

He also complained that his daughter had put his family in a difficult situation by reporting the beatings to police. Kristiansand newspaper Fædrelandsvennen reported that he now fears he'll be deported.

The court decision marks the second time he's been convicted of assaulting his daughter. He was sentenced to 45 days in prison last June after he beat his daughter for coming home late and having a boyfriend. The beatings continued after the daughter admitted she'd had sexual relations with two boyfriends. The father also allegedly threatened to decapitate her.

He told the court that he regrets bringing his family to Norway, because he believes the country is much less conservative than he had thought it was.

Säpo reveals Swedish embassy threats
Published: 23rd March 2006 09:11 CET

Sweden's security police, Säpo, has revealed that serious threats were directed at Swedish embassies abroad after the far right group Sweden Democrats published one of the pictures of the prophet Muhammad on its web site. According to a letter from Säpo, signed by the organisation's boss Klas Bergenstrand, sent to the Chancellor of Justice, a competition run on the Sweden Democrats' site to draw another Muhammad picture was widely reported in the mainstream Middle East media.

The first response to the drawing came in January via the embassy of a Muslim country. On January 31st Sweden's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a meeting with ambassadors from Muslim countries, and just a few days later the Sweden Democrats published the drawing on its web site, reported Göteborgs-Posten. The reaction was such that Säpo considered there to be a risk that Swedish embassies, agency representatives and other institutions could be exposed to serious criminal attacks. In its letter to the Chancellor of Justice, the security police also stated that Swedes abroad could be in danger.

A Sweden Democrats board member, Adam Marttinen, was in contact with Säpo in February, as was Levonline, the company which hosted the Sweden Democrats' web site. According to Säpo, the threat against Sweden also included Levonline. In his letter to the Chancellor of Justice, Klas Bergenstrand emphasised that Säpo simply informed the hosting company of its views of the situation. How Levonline responded was up to them. The company closed the web site, and the Chancellor of Justice is now investigating the legality of that decision.

Adam Marttinen says that he was not given a clear impression of how serious the threat against him and others within the Sweden Democrats was. He also said that the Säpo official he met tried to convince him to take the picture off the web site, which Säpo denies.

Sweden (Country threat level - 2): Police technical experts confirmed that an explosive device of the dynamex type was found on a train in Södertälje on 1 April 2006. A police spokesperson said the bomb would have caused serious damage had it exploded; however, there was no detonator included with the device. Police officials do not know whether the device was being transported for detonation at another location or if it was to be used on the train. A train guard who discovered the suspicious bag containing the bomb carried it off the carriage and called police authorities.

Open season on Swedish Jews

Swedish Chancellor of Justice: Muslim calls for “Death to Jews” are just part of the debate on the Middle East

Earlier this year Swedish Chancellor of Justice Mr Göran Lambertz decided to discontinue his department’s pre-trial investigation into the Grand Mosque of Stockholm, where audio cassettes with highly inflammatory anti-Semitic content were being sold. After Swedish radio programme Dagens Eko unveiled the contents of the cassettes in November 2005, a charge of racial incitement was filed with the police against the Stockholm mosque.

The Swedish Chancellor of Justice responded by closing the pre-trial investigation on the grounds that “the lecture did admittedly feature statements that are highly degrading to Jews (among other things, they are consistently referred to as the brothers of apes and pigs)” but pointing out that such statements “should be judged differently – and therefore be regarded as permissible – because they were used by one side in an ongoing and far-reaching conflict where calls to arms and insults are part of the everyday climate in the rhetoric that surrounds this conflict”.

There are several comments to be made regarding the Chancellor’s remarkable statement. One is that it is important to remember in this election year that there is a sizeable Muslim minority in Sweden (Muslims number 400,000 souls in Sweden out of a total population of 9 million, whereas there are about 16,000 Jews living in that country).

Another is that at the mosque, a curse was pronounced on all Jews everywhere and the audience were encouraged to participate in Jihad (holy war) against Jews, highlighting suicide bombers as an effective weapon and praising them as martyrs. The Middle East was not singled out. This would therefore appear to be a clear case of racial incitement.

Yet the Chancellor of Justice opines that owing to the Middle East conflict, “such expressions, despite their content, cannot be regarded as racial incitement according to Swedish law”. One might indeed wonder how the phrase “kill the Jews” needs to be expressed in order to be regarded as sufficient incitement to kill Jews, according to the Chancellor, who finds nothing inflammatory in the statement. ...

Sweden (Country threat level - 2): Swedish police officers evacuated Gustav Adolfs Torg in central Malmö shortly before 1000 local time (0800 UTC) on 12 September 2006 following the discovery of a suspected bomb near a campaign booth for the Liberal Party. Authorities also cleared buildings surrounding the square and cordoned off roads in the area, which caused disruptions to traffic. The device reportedly consisted of two canisters filled with gasoline that were fitted with a fuse. In response to the incident, police officials announced plans to further increase security measures in the run-up to the nation's general election scheduled for 17 September 2006. No further information is currently available.

Fjordman: Muslim immigration and welfare
October 31, 2006

A note from Fjordman:

I got some angry comments at Jihad Watch some days ago when I posted an essay saying that: "The welfare state is now just a big pyramid scheme where Leftist parties take our money and give it to Muslim immigrants in return for voter support. The welfare state in fact provides insecurity, since it is used to fund the Muslim colonization of the continent."
Well, read this:

Half of the first immigrants to Norway in the first half of the 1970s are now living on state payments. The study focused on 2,500 immigrants from Pakistan, India, Turkey and Morocco born between 1936 and 1955, and compared with a control group of Norwegians of the same age. In their first ten years the immigrants were actively employed, and as many were employed as Norwegians. But after this period their activity declined sharply, and by 2000 half of the immigrants were unemployed, compared to 13 percent of their Norwegian peers.
http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1514123.ece

Yet despite this, the Norwegian Minister for Labor and Social Inclusion Bjarne Håkon Hanssen from the Labor Party was in Pakistan a few weeks ago and asked for more immigrants from Pakistan, because this would be good for the Norwegian economy. I think what he really meant was that it would be good for the Labor Party, since most Muslims vote for the left-wing parties because they give them more money.

Sweden Afraid of Russian Spooks
By Alex Bakst

First it was Poland which came out against the planned Baltic Sea pipeline from Russia to Germany. Now, though, Sweden says it is worried that the Russians will use the installation for spying.

The public relations operation is impeccable. Nord Stream AG has given every assurance that its planned gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea will respect not only the environment, but also the socio-economic and military sensibilities of every country en route from Vyborg, Russia to Greifswald, Germany.

Nice try.

Sweden, for its part, remains unconvinced and fears that the pipeline could serve as a Trojan Horse for Russian spies, posing a serious threat to Sweden's national security. Both the country's defense minister Mikael Odenberg and leading opposition politician Ulrica Messing have recently voiced defense and security concerns.

"The project will only cause trouble," Robert Larsson, a security analyst at the Swedish Defense Research Agency, told SPIEGEL ONLINE on Wednesday. "Sweden has nothing to gain from it."

Of particular concern for the company is the 30 by 30 meter service platform the pipeline company plans to build off the coast of Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream, who appointed former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder shortly after he was voted out of office last year, says the platform is "for pipeline maintenance and security purposes" only, according to a statement released by the group on October 4. But Swedish authorities are worried that the platform, and indeed much of the 1,200 kilometer long pipeline, could be used to maintain a clandestine overview of all military and civilian traffic in the Baltic Sea.

"Will cause friction"

Larsson confirmed that "it would be possible to set up radar and sonar systems on the platform and pipeline that would be closer to the Swedish mainland than current installations in Russia." He also cited terrorism as a concern: While protection of the platform would be Sweden's responsibility, "friction would likely arise if Russia wants to intervene," Larsson said.

Russia plans to increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea -- ostensibly to secure the platform and to assist in the clearing of any unexploded ordnance from World War II that might block the pipeline's route -- are also cause for concern. Nord Stream Press Secretary Jens Müller told SPIEGEL ONLINE this was "a well-intentioned political gesture on the part of the Russian government."

Plus, he said, there are a number of other Russian pipelines underneath the Baltic Sea. If Russia was really interested in spying, it would have attached sensors to those installations long ago.

Larsson, though, remains distrustful. His organization recently published a study that claims Russia "is on the wrong track." Russia is moving away from democracy, the report finds, and is instead reverting to Cold War authoritarianism. "If Russia was behaving in the same way as Norway with regard to its energy politics," Larsson says, "these problems would not exist."

Previous criticism of the project had focused mainly on its potential impact on the sensitive flora and fauna of the Baltic Sea. The EU Environmental Delegation in Strasbourg expects a "thorough and effective Environmental Impact Assessment," the German news service DPA reported on Wednesday.

As it turns out, this is the only real leverage that Sweden has over the project. In accordance with the EU's Espoo Convention, Nord Stream is required to submit a detailed report to the environmental authorities of those countries through whose exclusive economic zones the pipeline will pass. These parties include Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia and Sweden.

Sweden not alone

Nord Stream is currently holding "a series of meetings with the governments of the Baltic Sea states," according to a recent press release -- presumably to address concerns they may have about the project. Poland too has voiced concerns saying that Western Europe isn't doing enough to secure the country's energy supplies. In April, the country's defense minister compared the pipeline to the 1939 Hitler-Stalin deal with carved up Poland between Germany and the Soviet Union.

Assuming the project is authorized and construction begins in 2008 as planned, the pipeline is expected to be operational by 2010. The initial transport capacity of 27.5 billion cubic meters per year would help satisfy the growing energy demand in Western Europe. In a second phase, a parallel pipeline would increase the annual capacity to roughly 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Scandinavia Next Terror Target?
November 20, 2006

A popular Swedish proverb observes that "it is not the fault of one that two quarrel." This truism is increasingly reflected in the apparent deterioration of the security situation in Scandinavia, a region traditionally successful in adopting neutral positions during military conflicts, thereby guaranteeing relative peace.

Tragically, immunity protection for uninvolved third parties under international law seems no longer relevant in the post-September 11, 2001, era. Indeed, in the eyes of contemporary Jihadist terrorists, who advocate a Muslim holy war against infidels, there are no innocent communities and countries. Moreover, political and judicial distinctions between combatants and noncombatants are now obliterated by projecting brutal state and nonstate illegal force.

It is only a matter of time, therefore, before Denmark, Norway and Sweden are seriously targeted by both international and homegrown terrorist networks. Admittedly, prior to September 11, this region had only faced low-level ideological and political violence. Foreign terrorists and their indigenous sympathizers and supporters have exploited the benefits of the Scandinavian open liberal democracies with their modern infrastructure offerings. These enlightened and sophisticated systems enabled substate perpetrators in the name of "higher principles" to engage in propaganda activities, secure safe-havens, raise funds, purchase weapons, provide logistical support and mount rather primitive operations against selected adversaries within the region.

Between the 1960s and 1990s, several dozen terrorist incidents were recorded. These attacks included targeting primarily foreign embassies and diplomats, airline offices, businesses, as well as domestic religious institutions. The motivations of the terrorists involved were mostly political, related to conflicts involving Yugoslavia, India, South Africa, Turkey, Lebanon, Iran, Israel and the Soviet Union (later Russia).

Since September 11, Scandinavia's potential victimization has become more critical than ever before. Two major reasons account for this inevitable eventuality. The apparent expansion of al Qaeda's international network into the region is the first reason. After all, the stated objective of Osama bin Laden's terrorist worldwide movement is to unite all Muslims from Asia, Africa and Europe in a Shariah form of government that follows the rule of the Caliphs. To achieve this theological-strategic goal, the United States and its Western allies are by definition considered the "enemies of God" and must, therefore, be attacked by as much force as possible, including the utilization of weapons of mass destruction in a Jihad (Holy War) until total victory is achieved.

This Jihadist mindset seeing Scandinavia as the next battlefield in Europe is unmistakably clear. Currently, Denmark provides some 500 troops to the stabilization efforts in Iraq and has also contributed to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, supporting the U.S.-led coalition. In 2005, a Danish publication containing caricatures of the prophet Muhammad set off severe protests against the country, especially in the Middle East, culminating with the attack against the Danish Embassy in Damascus.

Sweden also contributed military assistance in Afghanistan, and its new conservative government openly advocates that Sweden should join its two Scandinavian neighbors in NATO, thus playing a greater role in the U.S. global war on terrorism. Moreover, Norway is now active in Afghanistan after withdrawing its troops from Iraq in October 2005.

Members of al Qaeda network affiliates, such as Ansar al-Islam, Ansar al-Sunna, Al-Aqsa, Hizb ut-Tahrir, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Moroccan Islamic Combatants Group, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and Chechnyan operatives, have already developed loose structures in the region. These and like-minded bodies elsewhere pose potential security threats.

The second major contributing factor that encompasses escalated violence in Scandinavia is homegrown terrorism. This is a new phenomenon consisting of small, unsophisticated and autonomous groups nourished by bin Laden's Jihadist concepts, seeking to form and operate without traditional external direct or indirect support. The newly emerging domestic cells include second-generation young Muslim immigrants from various countries (such as Bosnia, Lebanon, Morocco, Iran, Syria and Turkey) who after becoming disillusioned by their "normal life" are attracted by the multifaced forms of inspirational communications through Jihadi chatrooms and Islamic Web sites (e.g., "Supporters of Shariah in Sweden"), anti-Western and anti-Semitic propaganda (e.g., Radio Islam), radical preaching in certain local mosques (e.g., Taiba in Denmark), and the distribution of militant videos and literature.

Some of the domestic terrorist operatives have already been apprehended in Scandinavia and abroad. They have been accused of, and in a few cases even been convicted for, plotting attacks on such targets as churches, synagogues and U.S. and Israeli embassies.

It is not surprising, therefore, that Scandinavian countries have strengthened their legal frameworks, improved human and technological intelligence, and upgraded law-enforcement capabilities. These efforts have already yielded practical results, including increased surveillance and bugging of suspects, banning incitement and glorification of terrorism, deporting noncitizens aligned with terrorists, and strengthening the cooperation with the European Community and other national and regional bodies to combat terrorism.

Despite these proven accomplishments, several areas require more national and regional governmental attention and action:

Expanding greater public awareness of the nature of the challenge.
Establishing lead national centers to deal with terrorism.
Broadening mandates of police and military forces to act cooperatively both domestically and internationally.
Instituting emergency medical preparedness to cope with unconventional attacks.
Developing a regional oversight body to oversee and maintain a balance between security considerations and ensuring the protection of human rights and a common democratic value system.
Constructing interfaith dialogues with mosques and other immigrant communities to foster tolerance and improved cultural relations.

In sum, it is naive to assume these recommended counterterrorism measures would guarantee once again Scandinavian "neutrality" in the face of post-September 11, terrorism. But it behooves all nations to recall the warning by the Roman observer Syrus Publilius some 2,000 years ago, "He that is best secure from dangers also is on his guard even when he seems safe."

Danish Teenager Sentenced in Terror Plot
February 15, 2007 7:20 PM EST

A Danish court on Thursday convicted a 17-year-old defendant on terror charges and sentenced him to seven years in prison for involvement in a botched plot to blow up a target in Europe. Three other suspects in the case were cleared of offenses. The court found Abdul Basit Abu-Lifa guilty of involvement in a terror plot uncovered in Bosnia in October 2005 with the arrest of two men allegedly preparing to carry out a terror attack.

The pair, Swedish national Mirsad Bektasevic and Abdulkadir Cesur, a Turk living in Denmark, were convicted by a Bosnian court last month of planning an attack aimed at forcing foreign troops to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan. The exact target of the plot remains unclear.

In the Danish case, police arrested Abu-Lifa and the three others on Oct. 27, 2005, after a tip from Bosnian police. Investigators used mobile phone records and Internet chats to link the defendants in Denmark to the Bosnian plot. ...

From the 2007 Intelligence Summit:
Jewish citizens in Sweden are routinely harassed on the streets – the police do nothing. Jews have been advised to not wear any attire making them recognizable as Jewish when in public places. This is similar to the situation in other European countries, like France and Norway.

When the Israeli ambassador to Sweden in symbolic protest unplugged the lights illuminating an “art” exhibition glorifying a Palestinian suicide bomber, there was a national outcry of protest. When in a Goteborg art museum an exhibit had to be withdrawn after the museum director and his family had been threatened with death by Muslims, the press was silent.

Sweden to extradite Moroccan terror suspect to Germany
29th March 2007 22:30 CET

Sweden will extradite a Moroccan man suspected of plotting terrorist attacks to Germany, where a European warrant had been issued for his arrest, Swedish officials said on Thursday. German justice officials had ordered 24 year-old Abdelali Miftah remanded in custody in absentia, "as part of an inquiry in Germany on terrorist crimes," prosecutor Ronnie Jacobsson told AFP. He said Miftah is suspected of participating in preparations to commit terrorist attacks but gave no further details.

Miftah was arrested in Sweden several weeks ago because he had no residency permit but was released. On Monday, after receiving the German warrant, Swedish police arrested him again. On Thursday, he was remanded in custody.

Jacobsson said Morocco had also issued a warrant for Miftah's arrest, but this was not sufficient for authorities in Sweden to act. Miftah can appeal his extradition to Germany.

According to Swedish news agency TT, Swedish authorities also decided Wednesday to remand in custody and extradite a Jordanian man to Germany. He is suspected of having links to Miftah and a third person detained in Germany.

3 indicted in Norwegian terror case
Tue Sep 4, 7:17 AM ET

Three men have been indicted on charges connected with an attack on an Oslo synagogue or plotting to attack the U.S. or Israeli embassies in the Norwegian capital, the national prosecutor said Tuesday. All charges related to the cases were dropped against a fourth man, said prosecutor Kristine Rise. He had been identified in earlier court rulings as 29-year-old Mohammed Adnan Nabi. The others have also denied any wrongdoing, and their attorneys said the basis for the indictments was weak.

Arfan Bhatti, 30, was indicted on charges of firing gunshots at Norway's main synagogue in September 2006, for conspiring to commit a terror attack on the embassies and on other unrelated charges.

Andreas Bog Kristiansen, 27, was indicted with Bhatti on charges of plotting to use explosives or weapons to attack the U.S. or Israeli embassies, and conspiring to commit armed robbery. Ibrahim Oezbabacan, 29, was indicted, with Bhatti, for either firing or being an accomplice to 13 shots being fired at the Oslo synagogue.

Rise said the indictment was made on Friday, but that she had declined to discuss it until she was certain it had been presented to all four suspects. "Now I'm sure it has been, so I can comment," she said.

The charges were in part based on recordings from an electronic bug police planted in one suspect's car, in which some suspects allegedly discussed blowing up the embassies.

Police won a court order Monday to continue holding Bhatti — who has been in detention since shortly after the synagogue shootings — for eight more weeks. There two other suspects were released earlier. No date had been set for the trial of the three suspects.

Sweden acts to cool cartoon row
Friday, 7 September 2007, 17:08 GMT 18:08 UK

Sweden's Prime Minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt, has met ambassadors from 22 Muslim countries in an effort to defuse a row about a Prophet Muhammad cartoon. The cartoon, published in a Swedish newspaper last month, showed Prophet Muhammad's head on a dog's body. Several Muslim countries protested. Mr Reinfeldt said Friday's talks had gone well, but added it was too early to say if tensions had been defused. Last year there were riots over Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Mr Reinfeldt said he told the ambassadors that under the Swedish constitution, politicians were not allowed to "interfere with how the media [works] and what it chooses to publish". Iranian Ambassador Hassan Ghashghavi, whose country had formally protested to Sweden over the cartoon, said Mr Reinfeldt's initiative "promotes dialogue and better mutual understanding". Egypt and Pakistan had also protested to Sweden after the cartoon appeared in the Nerikes Allehanda newspaper on 18 August. Muslims regard any visual representation of the Prophet as blasphemous. Many Muslims also regard the dog as an impure animal.

The cartoon's creator, Lars Vilks, told the Associated Press news agency the drawing was art. The Danish cartoons, first published in September 2005 by the newspaper Jyllands-Posten, ignited violent protests across the Muslim world in 2006 and boycotts of Danish goods.

Swedish artist says Mohammad picture meant to stir debate
Tue Sep 18, 2007 10:57pm BST

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish artist threatened with death over his drawing of a dog with the head of Islam's Prophet Mohammad said on Tuesday he drew the picture to spark debate about freedom of expression in the art world.

Showing the original picture at a debate in the Swedish capital, Lars Vilks said he had wanted to test the boundaries of freedom in art.

"It was a project for the art world," Vilks said.

"I noticed that you can't criticise the Muslim world."

Muslim countries including Iran and Pakistan have expressed anger over the drawing, and Sweden's prime minister has met ambassadors from 22 Muslim countries to defuse the row.

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, leader of the self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, offered up to $150,000 (75,000 pounds) on Saturday for the murder of Vilks.

In an audiotape posted on the Internet, Baghdadi offered a lower bounty for the death of the editor of daily Nerikes Allehanda, which published the drawing last month.

Vilks, who has been told by police he is no longer safe living at home, said the response to his drawing had been much bigger than he had anticipated.

He said the drawing was humorous and that he did not see it as negative.

"You can make jokes about religion, especially if you don't have any unpleasant motives," he said.

Top Swedish firms such as truck maker Volvo, mobile network builder Ericsson and retailer Ikea were also threatened unless an apology was forthcoming for the drawing.

The controversy follows violent protests in the Muslim world last year over the publication by a Danish newspaper of cartoons some Muslims felt insulted the Prophet Mohammad. More than 50 people died across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Norwegian court upholds expulsion of Mullah Krekar

OSLO, Norway: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a government order to expel the founder of Ansar al-Islam, a suspected Islamic terror group in Iraq, as a threat to Norwegian national security.

Two lower courts had also upheld a government order to deport Kurdish leader Mullah Krekar, a refugee in Norway since 1991. Even though the Supreme Court ruling was final, conditions in Iraq made it unlikely that he would promptly be returned to his homeland.

"There is clearly enough evidence that Krekar is a threat to national security through his presence in Norway," said Hans Flock, one of the Supreme Court justices.

Krekar, born Najm al-Din Faraj Ahmad, founded the Ansar al-Islam group listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and others. The group is also suspected in suicide bombings of coalition forces in Iraq.

Krekar has said he no longer leads Ansar al-Islam, and denies links to al-Qaida. The United Nations in December 2006 added him to a list of people believed associated with al-Qaida.

In a civil suit brought before Norway's highest court, Krekar sought to challenge the grounds for earlier court rulings, and the government's order to expel him, which also strips Krekar of his refugee status, visa rights and all related benefits.

Part of the case was also to test how far the courts can go in ruling on or reversing the decisions of Norwegian government agencies in such cases.

During the high court hearings, Krekar's lawyer Harald Stabell argued that his client had not been able to adequately defend himself because a report on why he as seen as national security risk was kept secret. All such reports are classified in Norway.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court noted that Krekar, in his own book, had written about meeting Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, and that the terror network has specifically threatened Norway on several occasions.

It also said Krekar repeatedly returned home to Kurdish areas in northern Iraq, even though he had been granted refugee status in Norway by claiming it was unsafe for him there.

Krekar was arrested at an airport outside Amsterdam, Netherlands, in September 2002, after Iran denied him entry and sent him back to Europe. He was deported to Norway in January 2003 because he had residency there.

Sweden considers state-funded Muslim ed
Feb. 5, 2008

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Swedish officials were considering using state funds to provide Muslim imams with training in Swedish language and culture.

Muslim leaders said imams should be given the same benefits as Christian priests and ministers, The Local newspaper said Tuesday.

Swedish Minister for Higher Education and Research Lars Leijonborg said the program might help keep radical Islam from taking root in Sweden.

"It has been suggested that radical Muslims from Saudi Arabia are offering to provide imams for free and a lack of money means that moderate Muslims who want to set up a mosque don't have any alternatives," Leijonborg told Svenska Dagbladet.

He said the Swedish government has begun talks with the newly formed Islamic study foundation.

Islamist mullah to remain in Norway
April 17, 2008 at 11:57 PM

A radical Islamic cleric will be allowed to remain in Norway indefinitely because he faces the death penalty if he is deported to Iraq, officials said.

Mullah Krekar, who has been living in Norway since the early 1990s, was ordered expelled last year as a threat to national security. Government officials now acknowledge that diplomatic efforts to arrange his expulsion so it would be legal under Norwegian law have failed, Aftenposten reported.

Labor and Inclusion Minister Bjarne Hanssen had been trying to negotiate a deal that would ensure Krekar's safety in Iraq. This week, he met with Gilles de Kerchove, the European Union coordinator for anti-terrorism operations.

Krekar was granted refugee status when he first came to Norway. But authorities then learned he was a leader of the Islamist group Ansar al-Islam and had been making trips to northern Iraq to lead guerilla actions.
