View Full Version : US/Mexican Boarder Fence petition gains momentum

Looks like illegial immigration and homeland security issues have led to a very real run at establishing the political drive to erect an Israeli style security barrier.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/usatoday/20051117/pl_usatoday/momentumbuildsforfencealongusmexicanborder

Those organizing the petition have even established a "we need a wall" website.

The fact is the security barrier in Israel has really been a like saver in terms of stemming the tide of suicide bombers in Israel. Maybe the US should get one too. Might even stem the flow of drugs over the boarder too!

...the ironic part is that it would cost 8 Billion, and so bush says its a waste of money...

Fencing the border, originally proposed in the debate over how to stop illegal immigration, is controversial. The Bush administration argues that a Berlin Wall-style barrier would be a huge waste of money - costing up to $8 billion.

I just dont see how when there is out of control govt. spending (in terms of the deficit), why 8 billion is anything to worry about...maybe cut back other, less pratical programs?

When compared to what we've spent in Iraq, $8B is cheap. It's also cheap when compared to boarder issues associated with drug trafficing......and then there's the issue of terrorists slipping over the boarder. So I agree very much with your post.

But I don't think illegal immigration is the best reason to put up the wall. To understand my reasoning on this point, please listen to the profound wisdom in the 3 minute video at the link below

I understand the idea of "someone has to do it"...

the reason americans dont want these jobs is because there is someone willing to do it for dirt cheap. get rid of the dirt cheap labor, and then americans will start doing them again.

supply and demand

if there is a shortage of workers, but a demand, the wage will increase in order to get more workers. It will help those at the bottom and hurt those at the top (among many other things).

In any case, there are three arguements for the security barrier with Mexico

- it worked for Israel in stemming terrorism, so let's prevent a terrorist from entering via the long boarder with Mexico
- stop illegal immigration in general
- prevent drug trafficing

Thoguhts?

I have seen first hand how a group of illegals are afraid of a couple of grandparents armed with a radio and binoculars. They stayed across the boarder. The Minutmen work and are feared.

I urge any to join, even if you do not live in a border state.
There is plenty you can do to help OUR nation and way of life.

Very cool. Also, did you see the reference to this petition regarding the barrier?

weneedafence.com (http://weneedafence.com)

Anyway, the barrier in israel worked wonders for stopping terrorism in Israel and imagine we'll need one here too. I am all for cheap Mexican labor. Like the big man said in his video (see the link in my post above), we need people to wash our cars and do our laundry inexpensively. But the immigrationhas to be done legally. Also we have to stem the flow of drugs into our nation. And then there's the terrorists that might try to sneak in over the boarder.

In fact, we may need a barrier with Canada in the future as well.

You can build all the walls you want, the gimmick will not work until americans become competitive. <shrugging shoulders>

Ah yes the wall in Israel. It would serve a few needs.

1) Stem the flow of illegals.
2) Create jobs for legal Americans, by building and maintain it.
3) Eliminate liberals that want to protest it by standing in front of the tractors building it.Like that stupid idiot did in Israel a couple of years ago.

Oh and give the wall building contract to Haliburton just to piss off the left further.

Moreover, Fox made it clear that he did not stand with the United States on issues of vital importance to American democratic sovereignty. In this regard, he warned the Europeans that, “we [Mexicans and Europeans] have to confront….what I dare to call Anglo-Saxon prejudice against the establishment of supranational organizations.” Anglo-Saxon prejudice would presumably mean American (and, in some cases, British) support for the concept of national democratic self-government (or the liberal democratic nation-state) over transnational institutions such as the UN, the EU, the International Criminal Court, and other supranational bodies.)

Big storm, fire storm.

Quite. Should nations have control of their borders? Yes. What is the best way to secure borders? Mines. Clearly marked mined zones of course.

"Hollywood" is supposed to be entertainment, make believe, an escape from reality, entertainment. Not a conduit for biased political views. Why do people put so much stock in "actors?" Individuals who are just above waiters and waitress's. (exception - Reagan) What do they know that we don't? What makes them "right" and the rest of us wrong? Nothing, they have free access to the media, so we hear them way more then pro-war endorsements. If had to pay for it, it would cost tens of millions to get the same pro/exposure for the war.

Hollywood is a/the major mouthpiece for the left. Think about it, if Hollywood was silent, what would we be hearing?

You would be surprised at how many Mexican and Indian folks I met at a Minutman rally this past summer, that support us 100%.
The Mexicans I met worked hard to be legal Americans and want nothing just handed to them.:)

Yup....it seems some girls start out experimenting with being lesbian and kindof get hung up on it....when they meet the right guy they come "home".

But then there are chicks who are just total headcases and stay on the lesbian thing for good......takes all types I guess

Bottom line is: women just want affection.....

The Yucatan is full of Indian peoples being treated like shit by their Spanish/Mexican overseers.

Perot was a fun candidate. He caused George Sr to lose his second bid in office. Sometime I think those two Texans didn't like each other and that was Perot's real motivation to run....to split the Repub vote and watch Bush's reelection bid go down the proverbial tubes.
